End of the tax year in the UK! Apply for your 2013/14 UK tax return!
The current tax year in the United Kingdom finishes on the 5th of April 2014. As from 06/04/2014 it will be possible to claim a 2013/14 income tax return. If you are non-resident in the UK and you have worked under the PAYE scheme during the period 5th of April 2013 – 5th of April 2014 you could be due a substantial amount in tax refunds. If you are self assessed in the UK you will need to file your UK tax return by 31st October annually if filing on paper or by 31st January if e-filing. If you miss these deadlines you will incur penalties. Below we have outlined the now more stringent penalties that came into place on 31st January.

| 1 day late | £100 fixed penalty. This applies even if you had no tax to pay. | |
| 3 months late | £10 for each following day – up to a 90 day maximum of £900. This is as well as the fixed penalty above | |
| 6 months late | £300 or 5% of the tax due, whichever is the higher. This is as well as the penalties above. | |
| 12 months late | £300 or 5% of the tax due, whichever is the higher. In serious cases you may be asked to pay up to 100% of the tax due instead. These are as well as the penalties above. |
